Indianapolis hosts several major events and conferences, big ten football and basketball tournaments. With many travelers coming to the circle city for these events, in addition to conferences, seminars, and much more, I get asked all the time about activities to do on a budget. The good news for those on a budget is that everything in the city is much cheaper when compared to major cities like Chicago and New York City.
As a resident of Indianapolis living on the north side of the city, I know of plenty of activities that one can do on a budget that are either free or cost just a few dollars. Here are 5 activities you can do while in Indianapolis that won’t put a dent in your wallet:
1.NCAA Hall of Champions
Many sports enthusiasts are surprised when I tell them that the NCAA Headquarters is right in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Right next to the NCAA Headquarters is the Hall of Champions, which houses a huge collection of collegiate memorabilia. They also have several interactive games and activities that will keep you entertained for hours. I highly suggest checking out the softball fastpitch and field goal kicking exhibits. And tickets are only $5 for adults and $3 for children.
2. Indianapolis Art Museum
Did you know that the Indianapolis Art Museum is the 8th largest art museum in the world? With over 50,000 works of art, you will find plenty of exhibits to keep you entertained all day. The art museum is free to attend, but they do accept donations to keep the building running and free.
3. Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
Indianapolis is home to the largest children’s museum in the world! There are plenty of attractions for all age groups to keep you and the family occupied for hours. With tickets costing less than $20, the price of admission is definitely worth the entertainment you will be receiving. You don’t have to be a kid to come here; adults visit the children’s museum all the time!
4. Soldiers and Sailors Monument
Arguably one of the iconic pieces of Indianapolis, your trip to Indianapolis would not be complete without a trip to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Located in the middle of the circle, you can either walk to the top or take the elevator for $2. Be aware that the steps aren’t for the faint of heart; there are over 300 steps and it takes a few minutes. There is also a museum and plenty to see right near the monument!
5. Indianapolis Zoo
The Indianapolis zoo is located right in White River State Park in the heart of downtown. It’s an amazing zoo which has plenty of exhibits to keep you and the family entertained for hours. And while many world-class zoos can be rather pricey, admission to the Indianapolis Zoo is less than $10! It’s hard to beat that price for a full day’s worth of activities!
