After 20 years this celebration of the joy of ribs has grown to feature musical performances presented on five separate stages, children’s activities, cash and prizes, the World Rib Eating Championship, and the Best Ribs in the West. National Championship Air Races & Air Show

Held at Reno-Stead Airfield, the Reno National Championship Air Races has been an institution for 45 years. For five days you can watch serious air racing as six classes of aircraft compete at speeds reaching over 500 miles per hour. Starting in 1964, this event has been held annually near Reno, Nevada in celebration of the joy of flight. You can not only view the races up close, but you can also visit the pits to watch the individual race teams at work on various aircraft. Vendors are on hand offering aviation-related and other types of merchandise as well as a broad array of food and beverages. The Great Reno Balloon Race

This celebration of flight proceeds at a much slower pace that the Championship Air Races. As the largest free hot-air ballooning event in the country, the Great Reno Balloon Race has brought its free-floating spectacle to hundreds of thousands of spectators. For three days early in September, the Reno skies are filled with a rainbow array of hot air balloons. In 1982 the event began with a mere 20 balloons and has grown to include over 100 balloons. Enjoy lively colors and stirring music as the balloons rise aloft and soar into the sky.

Burning Man Event in Nevada

The Safari Club International’s Annual Hunters’ Convention is held each year in Reno. SCI has been holding its convention in Reno since 1989 and at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center since 1999. This fun event in Nevada involves more than 300 booths set up in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center catering to everything a car and truck-loving guy (or girl!) could want. Reno Street Vibrations

This event hosting the Bike Builders and Tattoo Expos is open to the public with no admission fee. As the 6th largest motorcycle event in the country, Street Vibrations is sure to appeal to the adventurous. The event includes a motorcycle giveaway, championship boxing, all-female roller derby, live entertainment, and great food. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds goes to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Reno is also host to many exciting sporting events. The Jam On It Basketball Academy holds its Hot August Jam / Summer Jam in Reno with teams competing for the top prize of AAU medals and trophies. NCVAGirls’ volleyball games are held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center regularly, and the annual Volleyball Festival, the nation’s largest girls’ volleyball tournament, is a much-anticipated event.
