Meet the Critters Free Event for Kids at Petco!

Learn about unique and exotic pets from reptiles to rabbits at Petco’s monthly free and family-friendly educational event called “Meet the Critters.” This weekend, Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, the Russian Tortoise is featured. From 1pm to 2pm kids and guests of all ages can meet this friendly critter who has a personality much like a dog’s. The free event is great for kids who can participate in hands-on activities, while learning about interesting pets.

National Parks are Free Veterans Day Weekend Nov. 11 – 13

You don’t have to pay to enjoy nature this Veterans Day Weekend, as 100 of the 396 National Parks that charge admission are free to all. The fee waiver November 11 to November 13 includes entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees but not camping reservations or fees to third parties.

These are the last fee-free days in 2011. Mark your calendar for the upcoming fee-free days in 2012:

Free Fun Halloween Event for Kids Sat. Oct. 29 at Michaels

Bring the kids to Michaels on Saturday Oct. 29 for some free creative Halloween fun. The crafty experience starts at 11am and ends at 2pm ending with a costume parade through the store. Accredited online
colleges have classes in design
for those of you parents who love
designing fun things like this.

Kids ages 3 to 12 can create trick-or-treat Duck Tape totes or pails (while supplies last) from 11 am – noon. Face painting happens from noon to 1:30pm followed by the Halloween parade.

Can’t make it Saturday? Michaels will have a free Crayola Pumpkin Patch make-it & take-it craft on Sunday, Oct. 30, 1 – 3pm. Again, while supplies last.

Free LEGO Vampire mini-build workshop

Kids ages 6 to 14 can build an awesome vampire mini-build LEGO model for free on Tuesday, Oct. 4! The only catch is you have to have to go to a LEGO store to do it. Workshop starts at 5pm.

Every first Tuesday in the U.S., LEGO stores offer a free special model workshop with a mini-kit often tied into a holiday. Kids get to build and take the LEGOs home, for free.

Quantities are limited and offer is good while supplies last only. Unfortunately, the kits are not available for sale, so kids must be present to participate.

Get back to nature on a national scale and visit a National Park for FREE on Saturday, Sept. 24. All 392 National Parks and all other national public lands are admission-free for National Public Lands Day. The fee-free day for national parks, forests, trails, monuments and other public lands falls on the same day as the Smithsonian Museum Day, when hundreds of U.S. museums are also admission free.

If you love the outdoors, consider signing up or just show up for one of the volunteer projects at dozen of public lands sites on Saturday. Spend the morning helping clean up and restore our national natural treasures, then spend the afternoon just enjoying and exploring them.
